What I don't understand is why this man feels like it's okay to stand up in front of a meeting with dozens of executives present and make this blanket statement about using high deductibles to keep their associates from actually accessing the benefit. When deductibles are so inflated that the associates can't afford to use it, in any other business, it would be called "fraud". People are paying for a service they cannot use. Wal-Mart, being a multi-billion dollar company can afford to provide health insurance to every associate working there. They can afford to pay an ad agency $10 million a year to hype it, but the truth? It still "Stinks"! What woman would be able to pay $1,000 deducible each year to be able to get a mammogram? What happens when she arrives. They take the useless insurance card, call the 800 number, and come back and say, "Mrs. Wal-Mart Associate, according to our records, you have not met your yearly deductible of $1,000.00. Will you be paying that in cash, or credit today?" The reason I know this happens is because it happened to my wife. Only the deductible was $350, but the demand was the same. Pay it up front or walk out the door.
