Well, they can't really get the plot much farther from the books as they did in season 1. Personally I wish they'd stick to the actual plot, but that rarely happens in tv and movie adaptations. I like the series as a stand alone show, I just have to pretend it's not suppose to be the same series as the books and I'm fine.

But, I agree with Kelly, it doesn't matter whether Lafayette is in the car or not, just bring me more Eric!

I am praying that Lafayette somehow makes it. He is an awesome character and several adaptations keep a character when they died off in another. For instance in Queer as Folk, Ted survives rather than dieing in the beginning and it really paid off for the show.

I hope they break the heck out of canon reguarding Lafayette. Harris darn near lost me as a reader when she offed him in the book. I agree with Samamatha, I hope it's someone else like Miss Jeanette or Lettie May.

But they've already stepped so far "out of canon" to make the show much richer than the books (no offense to Harris fans, but the books leave me cold). Lafayette is a minor character and his death a minor story in the books. On the show he's much bigger and more important, and at the center of several stories that haven't yet been paid off. It would be foolish to kill him off so soon. I for one hope it's Lettie May in that car.

I believe "He died in the books" means that he died in the books -- i.e., Charlaine Harris never brought him back, although I'm currently only on the fourth book and don't know what happens in the later ones.

I know that plot points are changed all the time in movie and t.v. adaptations, but it seems to me that bringing Lafayette back would be stepping too far out of canon. JMHO.
