By far, the highlight of Timebomb  was Godric. We’ve been waiting for weeks for more of Eric’s maker, and he definitely didn’t disappoint. We knew Godric’s old, but he’s also well respected and wise – and hopefully continues to be a part of the show. He snaps Gabe’s neck, and yet instructs eric to get sookie out of there without any bloodshed. If it weren’t for the nonchalant killing of Gabe, I would have thought Godric to be the most merciful vampire (especially when he let Isabel and Hugo leave without punishment) – but he’s more complex than that. How difficult it must be for him to be so lenient, in the company of other ruthless vamps. I can’t imagine his views are popular – if it weren’t for his age and strength, he probably would’ve been killed by his own kind already.

As the Fellowship of the Sun church filled with vampires, Godric stopped the chaos easily – and his conversation with Steve showed just how crazy and out there the Newlins’ preaching really is. Godric telling Steve his faith in humankind is stronger (than Steve’s) was a nice line – and the fact that Godric is “actually older than your Jesus” was a bit startling to think about, too. Yes, we know Godric is over 2000 years old – but to think about actually living for 2000 years? That’s a lot of history to witness. No wonder Godric’s tired.
